Congratulations to our wonderful creative team! Educational media products created by the Department of Innovative Media Research and Extension (IMRE) were recognized this year with awards from the Association for Communication Excellence (ACE) and the Telly Awards.
Association for Communication Excellence (ACE) Awards
The Association for Communication Excellence (ACE) is a professional organization of communications professionals and educators who extend knowledge about agriculture, natural resources, and life and human sciences. The ACE awards often recognize work done for educational, governmental, and research institutions and associated organizations.
In 2024, the IMRE team received ACE awards for the following products:
This educational video game for youth teaches food safety and handwashing skills. It won a gold award in the Interactive Media Program category at the annual ACE conference.
IMRE’s interactive module on safe horse handling took the silver award in the same Interactive Media Program category.
A silver award in motion graphics was awarded to IMRE’s animated video explaining the history and function of Extension programs and Land Grant Universities.
Both the Extension animation and Theme Park Kitchen also picked up silver awards for graphic design from the ACE organization.
Telly Awards
The Telly Awards recognize excellence in video and television across all screens. Founded in 1979 to honor local, regional and cable television commercials, the award now includes digital video, branded content, documentary, social media, immersive media and more.
Receiving over 12,000 entries globally from 6 continents and all 50 states, Telly Award winners represent work from some of the most respected advertising agencies, television stations, production companies and publishers from around the world.
For outstanding work in video, the IMRE team won two Silver Telly Awards in the Health and Safety category.
The first Silver Telly honored the video “On Common Ground,” created as part of the Here To Help NM campaign, which aims to de-stigmatize mental health challenges in rural and agricultural communities through candid interviews with those currently working to improve their mental wellbeing.
The second Silver Telly celebrated a series of videos and animations that encourage people in New Mexico, including migrant farm workers, to get vaccinated. These outreach products were created as part of the EXCITE project, led by Sonja Koukel, former Extension Health specialist (now retired)
Congratulations to all of the hardworking videographers, programmers, artists, animators, instructional designers, writers, researchers and others who helped to bring these products to life.
